The two points that struck me from Evan Thomas’ advice is to write professionally and to use simple words. It is important to write professionally because you are being judged according to how you write. If you write in a sloppy way, the receiver will think that you are a sloppy person. There should be a clear distinction on how you write to your friends and how you write to your boss or colleagues. Writing professionally is even more important when applying for a job because you are giving a first impression. The employer or HR officer can decide to hire you or not based on how well your email is written.
